Engagement

We partner with organisations navigating inflection points, structuring each engagement around what the moment demands. The following four engagement models represent the most common ways we work – from defining direction to leading transformation and embedding long-term capability. Where to start depends on your situation, but many begin with a Strategic Roadmap.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on where you are and what you need to leave with. A Strategic Roadmap suits organisations that need clarity before committing to deeper work. Bespoke engagements are for those ready to build and embed. Fractional works when you need ongoing senior brand capacity without a full-time hire. Workshops fit discrete moments e.g. a leadership offsite, a team reset, a specific decision to unlock. If you are unsure, start with a conversation. We will tell you honestly if the fit is not there.

With a conversation, not a pitch. We want to understand your situation before proposing anything. From there we scope the work, agree on terms, and begin with the QUESTION phase of the '42 Framework' – investigating the commercial, customer, cultural and organisational tensions shaping your growth. Most clients surface things they had not expected.

It depends on the scope. A Strategic Roadmap typically runs four to six weeks. Bespoke engagements run three to eight months depending on scale. Fractional engagements run on a rolling basis. Workshops are usually delivered within four weeks of brief. We will be specific about timelines when we scope the work, and we will tell you honestly if your timeline is unrealistic for what you are trying to achieve.

Engagements are scoped and priced on a project basis, not by the hour. We agree fees upfront based on the scope, timeline, and seniority of the work. Fractional engagements are charged as a monthly retainer. Workshops are charged as a flat fee. We will be transparent about pricing during scoping.

All client-facing strategy work is led by Remona Duquesne, Founder of Numeral42 and Principal Consultant and/or Joan Yeoh, Principal Consultant. You will not be handed to a junior team. Where specialist expertise is needed, we draw on a curated network of senior practitioners or partner agencies, each selected for the specific engagement. We do not staff projects to fill capacity.

Yes, and we do regularly. We are deliberately agency-agnostic. Our role is to bring strategic clarity and a framework your teams and partners can work within. We spend time early in every engagement understanding who else is involved and how our work connects to theirs.

We work with organisations where brand strategy can meaningfully shape commercial outcomes – typically growth-stage companies, established mid-market businesses, and divisions of larger organisations navigating transformation. What matters more than size is whether leadership is ready to make decisions on what we surface.

AI is built into how the '42 Framework' runs, not bolted on. We use AI visibility tools to map how brands and categories show up in machine-readable culture. We partner with AI-augmented research firms to surface audience truth at pace. We use a proprietary AI brand assistant to ideate strategic and creative directions at speed. We design AI fluency programmes for client teams, so the brand stays distinctive as everything around it accelerates. AI gives us velocity. Strategic conviction keeps that velocity pointed in the right direction.

Yes. We have direct experience structuring engagements to meet grant programme requirements, and can advise on eligibility and support the application process. Raise it early in our conversation if you think a grant might apply.
